The Inn at Mattei's Tavern dates back to 1886, when a Swiss immigrant named Felix Mattei built the tavern as the primary stagecoach stop between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Since its earliest days, Mattei's has been a community hub; the 19th-century water tower still serves as a landmark for locals and visitors alike.The Inn at Mattei's Tavern has long held a fabled place in Central Coast lore enjoyed for generations, the beloved landmark opened a new chapter in Winter 2023 as the definitive luxury destination in Los Olivos in the Santa Ynez Valley.
Historical architecture and modern comfort harmoniously woven into one, rich with rustic sophistication and legitimate history, Mattei's Tavern effectively melds old with new. The Tavern Building dates back to 1886 and the original cottages have been painstakingly restored to preserve their distinctive details, while new buildings sit alongside them – seamlessly blending with the authentic structures.
